This is the Aten. He was the soul god of the Egyptions during the reign of the Pharaoh Akhenaten. The Aten was always depicted as a sun with hands extending from the rays on the bottom. After the death of Akhenaten, the Egyptions went back to their old multi-god system. Later pharaohs tried to erase all traces of the Aten and Akhenaten, but they obviously were not successful.
